Mother Tongue Day

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) (Bengali: আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস Antôrjatik Matribhasha Dibôs) is a worldwide annual observance held on 21 February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. First announced by UNESCO on 17th November 1999, it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.

At Aditya Birla World Academy, we celebrated our second edition of the event (it was a whole school event for the second time) with a host of interesting events – Debates, songs, dances, poetry and name tags! Students came to school dressed in traditional outfits and attended a special assembly organized by students from Grade 9. The cafeteria also had a special lunch menu for the day.

Students and teachers alike appreciated the event and look forward to having it every year.
