1. What is the IGCSE?
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is the world's most popular and sought-after international qualification for 14-16 year olds. It is offered by the Cambridge Assessment International Education, and is more than 30 years old. The qualification spans across grades 9 & 10, with a final IGCSE examination taken at the end of grade 10.

2. How is the IGCSE beneficial?
The IGCSE offers a stimulating curriculum focusing on creative thinking, enquiry, and problem solving. It focuses on the application of skills and knowledge, rather than rote learning.

3. What does the IGCSE curriculum consist of? The Cambridge IGCSE offers a flexible curriculum with over 70 subjects to choose from. 4. What is the grading scale for the IGCSE?
The grading scale ranges from A* to G. In certain countries like India, Cambridge also issues a Percentage Uniform Mark on the Statement of Results along with the grade. The Percentage Uniform Mark is a point on a common scale for all syllabuses to show whether the candidate's performance is close to the top, middle or bottom of the grade.

5. What is the IGCSE Core & Extended Curriculum?
To accommodate students with different learning abilities, IGCSE offers a choice between Core and Extended curriculum in some subjects.

The Core curriculum is targeted at students who are expected to achieve scores between C to G.

The Extended curriculum is aimed at those who are academically strong and are expected to achieve grades between A* to E. It comprises the Core curriculum and Supplement. The Supplement comprises of extra topics or depth which must be added to the Core curriculum to produce the Extended curriculum.

As per Cambridge, “The overlap of three grades (C, D and E) is designed to accommodate students who perform either better or worse than their teachers expect. Students who fail to meet the minimum satisfactory standard for either the Core curriculum (Grade G) or the Extended curriculum (Grade E) will be ungraded.”

6. Is the IGCSE restricted only to students who have completed Cambridge Primary or Lower Secondary?
The IGCSE welcomes students from all academic boards including State, CISCE, CBSE, IB etc.

7. Is the IGCSE recognized amongst Indian institutes?
The IGCSE is widely recognized in India as an equivalent grade 10 qualification for entry into grade 11 or for other higher secondary education courses.

8. What is the Cambridge ICE?
The Cambridge ICE is awarded to students who pass in at least seven Cambridge IGCSE subjects, including two from Group 1 and one from each of Groups 2 to 5. The seventh subject may be chosen from any of the curriculum groups.

Students who qualify may be graded either with a Distinction, Merit, or Pass. The Cambridge ICE thus allows a student to demonstrate their competence. It carries notable weightage in countries that accord it significance in admission selection.

9. Can I switch from one to another IGCSE school?
A student can easily switch between schools as all Cambridge authorized schools follow a common curriculum. However, it will be at the discretion of the school with respect to its admission requirements, subjects offered, availability of seats, etc.

10. What are the options after completing the IGCSE?
Many students progress onto the Cambridge A Levels, which builds up on the foundation of the IGCSE. Students may also move onto the IBDP or choose to study in India itself. However, one must note that the IGCSE exams are held in May-June, and results are issued during the second / third week of August.
